tomcat-8 is now stable upstream.

According to the news message on http://tomcat.apache.org/ tomcat-8.0.3 is still considered beta.

8.0.9 should be considered stable

Tomcat 8.0.9 (first stable version of 8-branch) has been released 2014-06-25. It's now january 2015...

What is the status of Tomcat 8 in Gentoo? What is hindering a tomcat 8 ebuild appearing in portage (not even a masked ebuild is available...) How can one help that Tomcat 8 gets into Gentoo soon? 
Strangely, I was also not able to find any 3rdparty overlays providing Tomcat 8.

If I just donwload the latest tomcat 8 ZIP from the official webpage, unpack it and run it using the provided scripts, it runs just fine on my Gentoo system...

there is no maintainer of the package and the ebuild is not trivial to do just a simple version bump. in case you want to help to update the tomcat 7 ebuild to work for tomcat 8, feel free to do it. in that case i also suggest you come to irc channel #gentoo-java@freenode for assistance and help. in fact anybody is invited to help with the ebuild.
