Created attachment 370658 [details, diff] gtk+-3.10.7 introspection flag fix Hi, When trying to install gtk+-3.10.7 (with the introspection use flag) I stumbled upon this error: g-ir-scanner: error: no such option: -f I am not sure if it is something wrong with my system or with the build, but I dug a bit in the Makefile and saw the the problem is that a gcc flag called -fvisibility=hidden is being used in the g-ir-scanner command which doesn't support it. I've made patch which fixed the installation for me. Maybe you will find it useful. Thanks! - Avner

> x11-libs/gtk+-3.10.7::my_ebuilds failed First of all, anything you've failed to tell about your overlay ? Second, where does that '-fvisibility=hidden' come from in the first place ? There *might* be a hint in config.log...
I've just stumbled into a similar problem with gnome-extra/sushi. For some reason the standard cflags are appended to the introspection flags. I'm not sure if that is intended or not - thatis,if some of the cflags are really needed (like -I/path) or not. But definitely some are just gcc only flags that are not supported by g-ir-scanner. for example in gtk+'s Makefile.in I see: @HAVE_INTROSPECTION_TRUE@Gtk_3_0_gir_CFLAGS = \ @HAVE_INTROSPECTION_TRUE@ $(AM_CPPFLAGS) \ @HAVE_INTROSPECTION_TRUE@ -DGTK_TEXT_USE_INTERNAL_UNSUPPORTED_AP and AM_CPPFLAGS contains: $(GDK_HIDDEN_VISIBILITY_CFLAGS) which is the -fvisibility And in sushi's Makefile.in I see Sushi_1_0_gir_CFLAGS = $(AM_CPPFLAGS) $(sushi_cflags) And in this case sushi_clags contains flags such as "-pthread -include /usr/include/js-17.0/js/RequiredDefines.h" which are not supported in g-ir-scanner. I'm not sure what's going on here.
I don't think there is any other overlay to tell about. Also I didn't find any info beyond what I wrote above in config.log
for gtk+ I see this in the trunk Makefile.am: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/gtk/trunk/view/head:/gtk/Makefile.am so I'm not sure how it compiles for other people.
This seems to have been dealt with here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695182 perhaps my system is not making use of this feature when it should.
Yes (sorry for bombarding). The feature is missing from : /usr/share/gobject-introspection-1.0/Makefile.introspection which is installed by dev-libs/gobject-introspection I have the latest version in portage - 1.38.0 Does this work for other people?
I have finally figured out the problem. For some reason (perhaps an overlay which is no longer on my system) I had gobject-introspection-common-9999 installed. So it was not upgraded when I upgraded gobject-introspection. That was an interesting dig (for me at least). I think this bug can be closed. Thank you! - Avner
