We have this nice package cd. What If more packages are added (that means: a set of maybe 8 cd's which mirror a compiled portage three. So one could use gentoo as a Debian or Red Heat distribution on slower machines too, with the advantage that gentoo which is lots faster than other distros. can one tell portage to use some packages on a different path (like /mnt/cdrom) and when the package is not found in this folder let portage say that one should change the cd? With gentoo going binary now https://www.gentoo.org/news/2023/12/29/Gentoo-binary.html I guess it can be considered as FIXED. Took a long time from 2004-05-05 08:01 o Dec 2023-29-12.2 but a fix was provided at last. I am happy that it got resolved. The distribution of binary packages has the potential to expand gentoo on numerous platforms and much more computers.
