As reported, see URL: app-misc/linux-logo/files/gentoo.logo: application/octet-stream; charset=unknown In this particular case, the problem is a single bad character (0x1a, ctrl-Z) at the end of the logo, which causes "file -i" to report the file as binary. This can be traced back to the user-submitted logo attached to bug 3364 (attachment 1328 [details]).
Created attachment 369946 [details, diff] Patch for files/gentoo-logo Attached patch removes the bad character from the file. I've verified that this doesn't change the visual appearance of the logo.
It will be fixed in linux-logo-5.11-r3. Thanks for reporting.
