!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- media-gfx/graphviz-2.36.0::gentoo (Change USE: +python

You start by using that, I guess. Also, please use our forums and IRC channels and mailing lists for support.
Comment 2 Roberto Castagnola 2014-02-06 00:11:01 UTC
Sorry, I suppose my description was too synthetic.

The problem is that ebuild for graph-tool-2.2.24 has unfeasible use flag dependency for ebuild graphviz.

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "media-gfx/graphviz[python,python_targets_python2_7(-)?,-python_single_target_python2_7(-)]".

Today I have correctly installed graph-tool-2.2.23 (after adding requested useflag +python to graphviz) since it use a simpler flag dependency

  media-gfx/graphviz[python]

instead of

  media-gfx/graphviz[python,${PYTHON_USEDEP}]

but I cannot still update it to 2.2.24 because of reported error (it only no more complain for missing +python flag since graphviz is now installed with it)

# emerge -av graph-tool

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

( python_targets_python2_7 ) exactly-one-of ( python_single_target_python2_6 python_single_target_python2_7 ) )')
- dev-python/graph-tool-2.2.24::gentoo (Change USE: -python_targets_python2_7)
(dependency required by "dev-python/graph-tool-2.2.24" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "graph-tool" [argument])

Adding suggested flags

# cat /etc/portage/package.use/test
dev-python/graph-tool -python_targets_python2_7
media-gfx/graphviz -python_single_target_python2_7

it still fails to build, as expected:

# emerge -av dev-python/graph-tool

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! The ebuild selected to satisfy "media-gfx/graphviz[python,python_targets_python2_7(-)?,-python_single_target_python2_7(-)]" has unmet requirements.
- media-gfx/graphviz-2.36.0::gentoo USE="X cairo nls pdf python qt4 svg -devil -doc -examples -gdk-pixbuf -gtk -gts -guile -java -lasi -perl -postscript -ruby -static-libs -tcl" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="-python2_6 -python2_7" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 -python2_6"

  The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied:
    python? ( exactly-one-of ( python_single_target_python2_6 python_single_target_python2_7 ) )

  The above constraints are a subset of the following complete expression:
    !cairo? ( !X !gtk !postscript !lasi ) python? ( python_single_target_python2_6? ( python_targets_python2_6 ) python_single_target_python2_7? ( python_targets_python2_7 ) exactly-one-of ( python_single_target_python2_6 python_single_target_python2_7 ) )

(dependency required by "dev-python/graph-tool-2.2.24" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "dev-python/graph-tool" [argument])

I don't know if a bug is into graph-tool or graphviz ebuild, or into python eclasses, but indeed something is working wrong

Next days I can try to install graph-tool-2.2.24 forcing to not compute dependecies (using emerge --nodeps) to confirme it builds and works (every dependencies are however there after installing older version), but using --nodeps is not a solution but just a workaround.

Sync up, the only versions in the tree now don't pull in graphviz and use cairo for graph rendering instead (graphviz support is deprecated upstream).
