Well, this is still rather optimistic. I tried to install Gentoo on 5GB root partition today. I was under 4GB-limit so I skipped that "small" parameter and ran out of inodes while doing emerge-webrsync (6.b. Configuring Portage). All ~317k Inodes used (but only ~49% of capacity). I suggest to change that text in Installation Guide to "less than 6GB". Or maybe even more...
