Description Henning Rohde 2004-05-03 08:17:32 UTC
when i try to emerge some new package, the build-process succeeds as usual, until the binaries are to be merged into the real filesystem:

frodo root # emerge -uv net-misc/rsync
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) net-misc/rsync-2.6.2-r2 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) rsync-2.6.2.tar.gz
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) rsync-2.6.2-acl.diff.bz2
>>> Unpacking source...
...
./usr/share/man/man5/rsyncd.conf.5.gz
>>> Done.
>>> extracting info
>>> extracting rsync-2.6.2-r2
>>> Merging net-misc/rsync-2.6.2-r2 to /

Invalid package name: rsync-2.6.2-r2/rsync-2.6.2-r2

Comment 1 Sven Wegener gentoo-dev 2004-05-06 02:48:05 UTC
Temporary fix might be to remove buildpkg from FEATURES.

I just tested net-misc/rsync-2.6.2-r2 with FEATURES=buildpkg and it
works fine for me.

Besides, >=net-misc/rsync-2.6.2 is hard-masked because it has issues.

Thank you very much, merging with "FEATURES=-buildpkg" works. :-)

BTW, sorry for not having been unambigious: the error occurs on any merge of a binary package.

If I can help further, please mail,

Henning Rohde

Still an issue w/ portage-2.0.50-r9 or portage-2.0.51_pre16?
Comment 4 Patrick Borjesson 2004-08-28 07:17:53 UTC
Yes, still an issue with portage-2.0.50-r10
I get the same error-message both when i build a package with FEATURES="buildpkg" (which will not install the package when the packaging fails) and trying to emerge a packaged package (tbz2-file). No problem doing a quickpkg on the package, but there's no point since you're unable to emerge that tbz2-file.

Example:

# emerge -K gaim
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) net-im/gaim-0.81-r5 to /
>>> extracting info

Invalid package name: gaim-0.81-r5/gaim-0.81-r5

Comment 6 Tom P. 2004-10-18 04:34:40 UTC
Can anyone tell if this is a problem with the package that can be corrected by editing it or is it a portage issue? Anyway, I still have the same problem with Portage 2.0.50-r11

# emerge --debug -vaK openoffice-ximian

Comment 7 Tom P. 2004-10-22 22:06:33 UTC
Ok, it seems this problem is specific to the box and installed portage and not the binary package.

This binary package created on my desktop failed to install on the desktop. But the same binary package did install on my laptop, both with portage version 2.0.50-r11.

After upgrading to portage version 2.0.51-r2, the same binary package installed on my desktop.
Comment 8 John Hampton 2004-11-18 16:49:04 UTC
I'm not sure how much help I'll be, but I can confirm that it's not specific to the rsync package. I'm running into the same problem with every package that I try to install. using FEATURES="-buildpkg" seems to fix things.
Comment 9 Alec Warner (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2005-08-06 09:09:01 UTC
If you can reproduce with stable please re-open. I've ran with
FEATURES="buildpkg" for quite a number of months with no issue.
