Wenn I try to get a preview or do a page scan from my Brother DCP-9270CDN, xsane abruptly terminates, and I get the following line in /var/log/messages: Jan 17 11:44:05 xxxx kernel: xsane[xxxxx]: segfault at 10 ip b5262710 sp bf8e4ab0 error 4 in libjpeg.so.62[b5255000+23000]
This happens regardless of any configuration I can do in the frontend (ADF/flatbed, color model, resolution, page size, target (save, viewer, multipage...)
libjpeg.so.62 is for binary-only packages. Please post the following information: - output of "emerge --info" - output of "qlist -CIv jpeg" (qlist belongs to app-portage/portage-utils)

# qlist -CIv jpeg media-libs/jpeg-6b-r9 media-libs/libjpeg-turbo-1.3.0 virtual/jpeg-0
Please try rebuilding xsane and post: $ ldd /usr/bin/xsane |grep jpeg libjpeg.so.8 => /usr/lib64/libjpeg.so.8 (0x0000003e15c00000)
After re-emerging xsane, I get: # ldd /usr/bin/xsane |grep jpeg libjpeg.so.8 => /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.8 (0xb6fa2000) (I have a 32-bit system) And the problem persists (with the same message in the syslog).
Can you please try latest ~x86 version of libjpeg-turbo? I was told that might fix your problem.
This did indeed solve this particular problem. It creates a new serious one however (just for the record): icedtea-bin uses package media-libs/jpeg, which conflicts with media-libhs/libjpeg-turbo — so I now have to use the Sun-JDK until this issue gets fixed. =:(
