Comment 2 Tom Wijsman (TomWij) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-01-14 20:22:41 UTC
This package has no maintainer so this bug may go unnoticed for a long time.
Gentoo has a dedicated team[1] for assisting users in maintaining orphaned
packages. If you are interested in maintaining this package, please contact
proxy-maint@gentoo.org.

Just for reference, this error earlier on might also be the cause:

chcon: failed to get security context of ‘gforth-ll’: Operation not supported
Comment 3 Paul Osmialowski 2014-05-08 20:33:52 UTC
The same here on my shiny new x86_64 gentoo box. Although the same version builds properly on some of my other gentoo machines - all of them 32-bit (ppc and x86). Looks like gforth is not ready for 64-bit OS.
Comment 4 Patrick Lauer gentoo-dev 2014-06-30 02:48:52 UTC
Wow, this is a great bug ...
Comment 5 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2014-06-30 12:56:00 UTC
It also has some pending bugs for a long time -> https://bugs.gentoo.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=gforth&list_id=2404456

Either someone takes this and maintain it (or, at least, finally makes the bump and fix) or this should be removed instead of keeping the broken version in the tree for ages
Comment 6 Keith Amidon 2014-08-02 13:55:04 UTC
For what it is worth, the trivial rebuild of renaming the ebuild file to the latest gforth version allowed it to build and appear to run on my non-selinux amd64 box. I've used gforth a bit in the past but am not using it for anything sigificant right now. I haevn't done the work to ensure that the ebuild doesn't need other updating so I don't really want to post an updated ebuild here, but I thought the information that it seems to be possible to get working without much effort might be helpful to someone.
Comment 7 Carsten Strotmann 2014-08-28 11:26:16 UTC
As Keith Amidon, the latest version 0.7.3 builds on Gentoo. If I remember, there was a regression caused by too aggressive optimization in later gcc that caused the failures.

I'm working on an updated ebuild that I will upload soon.
Comment 8 denis.bernard 2014-08-29 20:13:39 UTC
From my side, I have tested the latest development version of gforth-0.7.9 (02-Apr-2014). I found the sources inside the directory `snapsots' of the home page. It compile fine with GCC-9.1 . Excepted the brand new version of gcc, quite everything are on stable level in my amd64 desktop. (I need the newest version of GCC because I code in Fortran.) Something interesting with the today gforth is the interoperability with C language.
Comment 9 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2014-09-02 10:55:22 UTC
Looks like carsten is willing to proxy-maintain this, will CC proxy-maintainers then
