I've got installed cups-1.7.0 (with ~amd64 enabled)

Cups generates the "printcap"-file in /etc, not in /etc/cups, so you need not create a link in /etc.

I don't know if this is different to cups-1.6.* or if cups-1.7.* will change it in stable releases in the future.

Problem is gone with cups-2.x.x.
