dev-ruby/ffi-1.9.3 was built with the following:
USE="doc -test" RUBY_TARGETS="ruby19 -ruby20"
Comment 1 Juergen Rose 2014-01-03 12:17:52 UTC
Now I have the issue at the next system. 'emerge -uvDN world' fails with:

root@leopard:/root(33)# emerge -vuND world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

media-gfx/exiv2:0

  (media-gfx/exiv2-0.23-r2::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    (no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)

  (media-gfx/exiv2-0.23-r1::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    >=media-gfx/exiv2-0.21:0/0= required by (media-gfx/gthumb-3.2.4::gentoo, installed)
    media-gfx/exiv2:0/0= required by (app-office/calligra-2.7.5::gentoo, installed)

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

The following ruby_targets are defined:

root@leopard:/usr/local/portage/media-libs(57)# grep -i ruby_target  /etc/make.conf
#RUBY_TARGETS="ruby18 jruby"

root@leopard:/usr/local/portage/media-libs(58)# grep ^[^#].*ruby_targets  /etc/portage/package.use/monolithic
dev-ruby/bouncy-castle-java ruby_targets_jruby
>=dev-ruby/hoe-2.12.4 ruby_targets_ruby19
>=dev-ruby/json-1.8.1 ruby_targets_ruby21
>=dev-ruby/racc-1.4.10 ruby_targets_ruby21
>=dev-ruby/rake-0.9.6-r1 ruby_targets_ruby21
>=dev-ruby/rdoc-4.0.1-r2 ruby_targets_ruby21
>=dev-ruby/rubygems-2.0.14 ruby_targets_ruby21
>=dev-ruby/rubygems-1.8.11 ruby_targets_ruby19
>=virtual/rubygems-6 ruby_targets_ruby21

Should I replace ruby_targets_ruby19 by ruby_targets_ruby21?

I still have the same issue, also after 'emerge --sync'.

Yes, I missed this package when restoring the ruby18 targets. Now fixed.

After next 'emerge sync' 'emerge -uvDN world' wants to emerge all ruby packages with the ruby18 RUBY_TARGET, which fails due to missing /usr/bin/ruby18:

root@caiman:/root(18)# emerge --sync && emerge -p --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world
