Hello as suggested by some of our users, we would like to deploy an up to date gentoo mirror server, as part of a larger project funded by Italian NREN GARR (http://mirror.garr.it) gentoo-portage is already up to date and synced from rsync.de.gentoo.org every 30' It is accessibile as rsync://gentoo.mirror.garr.it/gentoo-portage/ We are updating from ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles a complete gentoo mirror which is quite out of date at the moment and accessibile for historical reason as http://gentoo.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/gentoo/ If you are interested you may add our mirrors to the official ones and gave as access to the master mirrors. Please let me know any details you need, and also if we need to change naming scheme (/gentoo, /gentoo-distfiles, and so on.). Best regards, Enrico Cavalli e.cavalli@cineca.it
That's great. Actually we do not have any mirrors in Italy.
This is very useful indeed! I really hope they will be added to the official mirrors
Thank you for your request. Could you please let us know about a few more things: - Location of the server - Bandwidth - Administrative contact We can begin testing the mirror shortly after receiving the information.
Hi, New mirror server is located in Bari, Bandwidth: 10Gb/s, Administrative contact: mirror-service@garr.it Regards
Thanks for letting us know. I've added your rsync service to our monitoring setup for two weeks to confirm it works properly. Also, we have very recently updated the rsync update procedure: Please include '--checksum' in the update job for the rsync mirror (cf. https://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-mirrors/message/01de7f043018783072fd8834ef99576f) and let us know on this bug when you have enabled it. Thanks! I am a bit confused about this though: (In reply to GARR MIRROR Service from comment #0) > > We are updating from ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles a complete gentoo > mirror which is quite out of date at the moment and accessibile for > historical reason as > > http://gentoo.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/gentoo/ > Is the source mirror really just for "historical reasons" or do you want to become a community source mirror as well? It doesn't look as outdated to be historical. ;)
In my opinion http://gentoo.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/gentoo/ is the most important service
Demand for mirrors is not large, so we do not need additional mirrors at this time. Thank you for your consideration. -A
