Description Ed Catmur 2004-04-30 09:47:33 UTC
gnome-utils depends on e2fsprogs.

This is to build gfloppy, which at the moment can only format floppy disks with ext2.

This is useless to me, as I do not have a floppy drive, and if I had a floppy drive I would want to use a FAT filesystem to format floppy disks.

Failure to find e2fsprogs headers is not fatal to gnome-utils - it just leaves out building gfloppy.

Also, I wish to remove e2fsprogs from my system as I run a pure reiserfs system. I have subtracted e2fsprogs from my system profile and this dependency is the only reason it is still required.

For this reason I propose that the depend on e2fsprogs should be removed or governed by a USE flag.

dunno, seems a little too uncommon a situation to warrant its own flag.

Removing it will give loads of ppl wondering where their floppy formatter is gone to and where they can get it.

Well, only people who know how to remove e2fsprogs from the system profile but don't know how to read the USE flag output of emerge -v...

You're probably right, it is a little too uncommon to bother changing things. Feel free to mark this WONTFIX.
