Description Pavel Šimerda 2013-12-17 11:10:22 UTC
Gentoo handbook assumes GRUB2 may not yet be stabilized and includes a note about it in the GRUB2 part.

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml?part=1&chap=10

Maybe it's time to already remove that note or even treat GRUB2 as a choice number one. Also, when GRUB legacy is installed, does it upgrade to GRUB2 automatically? If yes, then doesn't seem to be properly documented and the behavior would be very surprising.

Thanks; I've marked GRUB2 as default, moved GRUB Legacy downwards, removed the references about stability.

GRUB2 is installed automatically if you first installed GRUB Legacy (without the slot notation), but that doesn't impact your system. It is only when you invoke the grub-install step that the GRUB in the MBR is updated.

Thanks for quick answer. Just curious whether GRUB legacy should also be s/Optional/Alternative/?

Ah yes, Alternative makes more sense ;) Fixed in CVS.
