Is it possible to add these patches to the gitolite ebuild?

If we do not want this on vanilla-gitolite, maybe we can put it behind USE="git-annex" and disable this by default?

Personally I'd wait for upstream to merge that, assuming that will happen at some point. Maintaining patches can get quite annoying especially if upstream lags in this case.

I don't think it is too invasive. It adds a completely new file and changes two lines in a file that is already in master.
