Hello, I'm on some fresh arm box and no luck with wvdial. Only information I could have get is discussion here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/wvstreams-devel/R58V8CBSSjs They say Debian is right, I'm yet to replace packages and see if it helps. But maybe we just can implement their patches? I think its definately for bugzilla, so I've reported it How to reproduce - install wvdial on ARM and try to connect. Example
MiniBox ~ # cat /etc/wvdial.conf [Dialer defaults] Init1 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" Modem Type = Analog Modem ISDN = 0 Phone = *99 Modem = /dev/modem Username = internet Dial Command = ATDTW Stupid Mode = 1 Password = internet Baud = 460800 MiniBox ~ # wvdial --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.61 --> Cannot get information for serial port. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" OK --> Modem initialized. wvdial: utils/wvtask.cc:203: WvTaskMan::WvTaskMan(): Assertion `getcontext(&get_stack_return) == 0' failed. Aborted MiniBox ~ #
Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Gentoo on ARM 2. Install wvdial / wvstreams 3. try to connect Actual Results: It dies :-) nothing more I can say. Expected Results: It should parse configuration and make a connection. Best info here: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?shva=1#inbox/142e3e11bf271470

Ok, i have read discussion in URL, just to summarize: - The problem is unclear - somebody says that problem is in uClibc(uClibc does not implement some functions, that used by default in wvdial and workarounds for that seems to be broken in some cases. Also reported on x86 configuration too), others refer to cross-compiling issues(e.g. problem is missing when compiling natively, probably configure features detection are borked). - Suggested patches does not fit all corner cases and possibly brokes others configuration; - And last one - wvdial and wvstreams are NOT keyworded ~arm in Gentoo, so it is unsupported configuration for now. So, i suggest to close this at least as RESOLVED UPSTREAM(or even as RESOLVED WONTFIX) until proper resolution(e.g. patch from upstream or new release with this problem fixed) will be available.
Yes, all is unclear except packages are not supported :-) I did compile natively on ARM and cross compiled on AMD64 just to experience same results. Can we try review and merge at least patches from Debian, just a blind shot - mayby the bug... will go away :-) For those trying to setup 3G on ARM still there is pppd which works OK in baselayout-2.
