Description tyrokbugreport 2013-12-11 03:40:01 UTC
By default the Lego USB tower for communicating with the Lego RCX is placed at /dev/usb/legousbtower0 on my system. You should be able to specify that on the nqc command line with the -S switch. However, that device name is hardcoded to be /dev/usb/lego0 thanks to line 66 of rcxlib/RCX_USBTowerPipe_linux.cpp being commented out. It is possible to work around this bug by symlinking /dev/usb/legousbtower0 over to /dev/usb/lego0, at which point nqc is able to correctly talk to the RCX again, however without digging through the source code of nqc this is difficult to find. Upstream source also has that line commented out.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable kernel module for Lego USB tower
2. Plug in Lego USB tower
3. Emerge nqc with the usb USE flag
4. Become root or change permission on /dev/usb/legousbtower0 to allow your normal user to use the tower
5. Run "nqc -Susb:/dev/usb/legousbtower0 -pgm 2"
Actual Results:
The following error message is output:

Could not open serial port or USB device

Expected Results:
No output to console, Lego RCX switches to program #2.

emerge --info output:

!!! Set 'masters = gentoo' in this file for future compatibility

Patch which fixes functionality of the -S command-line switch.

This patch fixes the -S command-line switch and allows you to specify a USB device. It also enables the USB library and changes the default device name to match where the device appears in /dev/. Due to my lack of familiarity with how Portage patches are structured, enabling USB may very well overlap with what the "usb" USE flag enables, but applying this patch to the Gentoo-provided tarball and compiling does fix this bug.

Wow, this way upstream has chosen to change this is really ugly :S

Do you still need this package? It seems upstream is died since 2007 :/
