net-analyzer/mtr doesn't wait for last packets sent out in report mode and exits immediately, causing erroneous packet loss to be reported.

This issue has been fixed upstream with https://github.com/traviscross/mtr/commit/6ce1601

0.85-timeout.patch

Tested the patch (made from the github commit) and it has fixed the bug in question, and been quite stable for the last few months that i've been using mtr.

Yeah, that ebuild already contains the fix. :)
