Description Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-27 11:21:43 UTC
This is a bug to get all arches to mark net-im/gaim-0.77 and net-im/gaim-encryption-2.25 stable on all arches.

FWIW I use on x86 just dandy but I'll leave it up to the proper authorities to take action or grant me permission to change.
Comment 1 Travis Tilley (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-27 15:20:32 UTC
unless yahoo works with 0.77 like it does 0.75, i'm not marking it stable. i dont see a reason to.
Comment 2 Travis Tilley (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-27 15:28:12 UTC
i just tested 0.77... msn and aim work, but yahoo is still broken. unless there is some sort of security update i'm not aware of, i'll be keeping 0.75 in stable since it actually works.
Comment 3 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-28 06:41:07 UTC
lv I'm assuming you are on a 64-bit arch. Yes Yahoo! authentication doesn't work on 64-bit. The web-based auth used in 0.75 works for some reason, but won't work through proxies/firewalls.
Comment 4 Stephen Becker (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-28 07:01:00 UTC
It seems to work fine on mips (including yahoo), yet it seems like nobody else has marked it stable yet. How critical is this release?
Comment 5 Jon Portnoy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-28 13:53:32 UTC
rizzo: if it works for you on x86, go for it.

I'll be drawing up a proper x86 proj page with policies soon so maintainers are aware that they can feel free to stabilize packages on archs they use.
Comment 6 Travis Tilley (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-28 16:28:57 UTC
yes, i am on amd64. i havent given this problem much of a look, any idea what the problem might be? the error says "incorrect password". i'm guessing that the password gets encrypted/garbled in some way before being sent to the server and the code isnt 64bit friendly?
Comment 7 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-29 10:40:17 UTC
Marked both packages stable on x86.

lv: The yahoo authentication code currently in Gaim was graciously provided by the Trillian team, who aren't concerned with 64-bit at the moment obviously. I spoke with the infamous SeanEgan of #gaim and he said he plans to look at why it's breaking. It's been known that yahoo won't work on 64-bit since 0.76 but I guess it just hasn't reached enough critical mass for the higher priority.

Comment 8 Stephen Becker (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-30 12:03:25 UTC
Marked stable on mips.
Comment 9 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-30 12:12:18 UTC
Marked stable for sparc.
Comment 10 Bryan Østergaard (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-01 09:44:39 UTC
Stable on alpha.
Comment 11 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-04 13:43:54 UTC
You 64-bit folks might want to take a peek at gaim-0.77-r1 to see if Yahoo works for you. The 64-bit issues were supposedly fixed. I patched a number of other bugs.

I'll wait to see if gaim 0.78 is on the horizon before thinking about making 0.77-r1 stable (if it holds up, that is).
Comment 12 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-04 13:48:34 UTC
I already marked 0.77 stable on sparc, our userland is 32 bit and gaim works fine, even yahoo.
I'll test on hppa when i get some spare cycles, but the idea is the same (userland being 32 bit).
Comment 13 Jason Huebel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-25 15:02:28 UTC
yahoo still doesn't seem to work in 0.77-r2 on amd64
Comment 14 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-26 06:54:40 UTC
gaim-0.78 should be out by the end of this week. We'll continue testing then.

Although AFAIK no other patches were implemented.
Comment 15 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-06-10 08:07:53 UTC
It is now stable for all arches.
