It seems the jump to glibc-2.3.3_pre20040420 from glibc-2.3.3_pre20040207 broke my vmware. The following forums threads cover it. The end of the vmware thread is where I came to this conclusion, and since then I've verified it. Fixing my problem only requires downgrading glibc. http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=3722&tstart=135 http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=150976

Please, please, please, please tell me that you are not actually using *any* packages from breakmygentoo.net
Sorry, I can't tell you that. However, I can tell you that only gtk+/gnome packages come from breakmygentoo.net.
Also, this is on amd64? I have purposefully *NOT* keyworded vmware for amd64 due to massive issues with it and the lack of upstream vendor support. Unfortunately, until I get some better vendor support, there is little I can do. I will try to look into this and see if I can come up with a resolution, but since we don't support vmware on amd64 (hence, no keywords) you cannot expect me to spend a lot of time trying to solve this without upstream help. You can look into bug #47023 for more information and the reasoning for me not keywording for amd64. Once vmware releases a supported version for amd64, or at minimum one which doesn't have segfaults in default hardware configuration, we will revisit this issue.
