nexuiz-sdl didn't start for me until I have installed libpng:1.2 myself.

cannot reproduce... I removed all libpngs except media-libs/libpng-1.6.6

can you test with this one?

It removes the warning and seems to be the correct function according to the 1.2.x-1.4.x migration guide, but I cannot reproduce any crash either way
