x11-base/xfree 

xfree-team any ideas ?

this installation has xorg-x11 instead of xfree

Theres some light:

so this is a bad symlink from ati-drivers.

emerge again ati-drivers, the problem was fixed long ago, feel free to reopen the bug if I'm wrong.

On my powerbook with ati9600 I can't emerge ati-driver, and I'm having the same problem.

I solved as explained in bug 51142.
