Description Joe 2004-04-26 18:37:45 UTC
I try and boot from the LiveCD and I can not find any of my SCSI disks.

After about 20 times of testing different parameters to pass (doscsi, nousb, etc..) I get the following error:

hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveRead SeekComplete Error}
hdc: command error: error=0x54
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 1403244
/bin/sh: line 4: /sbin/init: Input/output error
/bin/sh: line 4: /sbin/init: Success
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

Although I am getting that error now and cant even get to the usual prompt, the error that remained before was the failure of the LiveCD to detect my SCSI card.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot off the universal LiveCD from 4/26/04
2. gentoo doscsi
Actual Results:
my SCSI card and drive are not detected

it prints the information:
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2

Expected Results:
detecting the SCSI card thus enabling me to have access to my hard drives and
install Gentoo

I solved it by doing

modprobe mptbase
modprobe mptscsih
