Description John L. Poole 2013-11-07 16:36:01 UTC
sys-devel/binutils fails to upgrade

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
emerge sys-devel/binutils
Actual Results:
emake failed
 * ERROR: sys-devel/binutils-2.23.1::gentoo failed (compile phase):
 *   emake failed

Expected Results:
successful build

The updated was from a XEN image, gentoo.2013-01.x86-64.20130102.img.tar.bz2 from http://www.stacklet.com/downloads/images/lister/Gentoo/2013-06/x86-64.

After the fail above, I tried to updated GCC from 4.5.4 to the current 4.7.3-r1, but that failed and I have filed a bug #490694.

Follows is the requested information:

Comment 3 John L. Poole 2013-11-08 16:53:36 UTC
Hold off on this..., the environment was running on 512 of RAM, a sibling Bug #490694 was resolved as being a problem of too little RAM. I'm compiling the GCC now with 4096.
Comment 4 John L. Poole 2013-11-08 16:57:26 UTC
I confused this bug with Bug #49094. This bug concerns the bintutils which has successfullyl compiled. I'm compiling GCC, Bug #49094, now which I expect to succeed.
