When panel effects (anything with a popup) are activated, or when any of the 'compiz' effects in cinnamon are activated (tile windows, desktops, etc), the effect works but then locks out all further inputs (except the power button) every time. Animated gifs, music and whatever was running in the background continues to run normally, and the cursor still moves but control/selection becomes impossible. Tested this against two different versions of cinnamon with the same result, and so far the only thing error-related that I've gotten in combination with this problem came from glib, which I can't downgrade below 2.36.*. Upgrading other libraries also failed to fix the problem, so I'm fairly certain glib is the culprit.

Do you get any error related with compiz when it freezes? Without any error I don't see any trace that could help to catch the culprit (either cinnamon, compiz, glib or any other lib that is related with glib-2.36)

Also, at least with gnome-shell, compiz is not supposed to be compatible with it, not sure about cinnamon
