Description Anton Bolshakov 2013-10-31 00:54:33 UTC
I have the system UMASK set to 027. After rebooting the system, something overwrites /etc/resolve.conf permissions and set to the umask value.
That breaks system. For example, wget is unable to resolve hosts during the emerge.

I found the code in the /lib/rc/net/system.sh:
 chmod 644 /etc/resolv.conf

However, it must be an another script running later on which changes that permission.

/etc/resolv.conf is generated upon bootup (or more specifically, upon netifrc iface initialization or whatever else you might be using to set up interfaces at bootup), and so the file will change. It makes sense to me that, since the old file is being dropped and a new one created, the umask applies to the newly created file in the same way that umasks do that everywhere.

The solution to this would seem, to me, to change the way this default umask is set so that it doesn't apply to the openrc environment. Otherwise, every possible thing that can update /etc/resolv.conf will need to be audited and possibly patched; not to mention everything else that may be creating files at startup.

Where are you setting the umask? /etc/profile?

I have static ip address configured so it should not be dhcpcd.

Yes, the umask configured in the /etc/profile

The umask in /etc/profile only applies to login shells.

Thanks for that hint. I've found that the bug caused by a third-party software (f5 vpn).

Marking it as an invalid.
