Due to the somewhat erratic release schedule of RTMPDump by upstream, some distributions (like Debian) have opted to provide a Git snapshot of this package. Livestreamer (proposed for inclusion, bug 488422) for example needs such a newer version in order to work correctly with some sites. Users could of course emerge media-video/rtmpdump-9999, but normal ebuilds cannot depend on live ebuilds. Therefore, it would be nice if a newer snapshot would be provided. Currently, the snapshot is hosted in: http://dev.gentoo.org/~hwoarang/distfiles It should be a matter of just bumping to a newer one, and perhaps tag its version in a similar manner to the mplayer ebuilds. Reproducible: Always
Well we could make a random snapshot but this may introduce further problems, and then we will have to make a new snapshot etc etc. I will have a look on what Debian has actually packaged and probably do the same for us.
It's pretty much the same deal as mplayer, really. Upstream's usual response when it comes to asking for releases is that "if you want an updated version, see Git."
