is it possible to slot the latest stable (as defined by kernel.org) vanilla-sources and the latest longterm (again as defined by kernel.org)?

to make it easier to have both the latest stable and the latest longterm if the stable doesn't quite work?

That package does have slots.

That's not how slots work. One ebuild is not permitted to be in multiple slots.
