I've compiled thunderbird with the libnotify USE flag as usual, but in the current version it seems to only use the built-in message notification. Nothing against that, the built-in notifications are more usable, except that they pop up when playing fullscreen games. USE flags: alsa crypt custom-cflags dbus gstreamer jit libnotify lightning minimal startup-notification system-icu system-jpeg system-sqlite -bindist -custom-optimization -debug -ldap -mozdom -pulseaudio -selinux -system-cairo -wifi I've been able to reproduce this on two other machines. Is it possible to get back the libnotify mail notifications or have they been scrapped from the latest thunderbird version? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Build thunderbird with libnotify support. 2. Wait for new mail to arrive. Actual Results: Behold the standard thunderbird mail notifications (which are clickable and will bring the thunderbird window to the front). Expected Results: Mail notifications generated and themed by notification daemon.
Same problem here.
Created attachment 363594 [details, diff] Revert removal of native notifications Patch from Ubuntu replaces the removed libnotify support. This patch applies against thunderbird 24.1.0-r2 - I've tested - patch applies, thunderbird builds, proper notifications are displayed once again. Original source found at: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/+source/thunderbird/1:24.1.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1
I confirm this patch works with 24.1.1. Please apply it, the standard mail notifications disturbing full screen applications are really annoying.
After 9 months it hasn't been fixed. @mozilla Can we get the patch applied downstream?
(In reply to Manuel Rüger from comment #4) > After 9 months it hasn't been fixed. > @mozilla Can we get the patch applied downstream? No we wont apply it in the official tree. You can apply it via epatch_user if you wish to use it,
Upstream bug has been fixed, the notifications do not integrate well into KDE Plasma, as they did with the patch but seem to work again. Tested with TB 38.0.1
If you feel I have closed your bug and it is still a current issue, please reopen and update it completely. We will not work bugs that have no ebuild in tree any longer or can not be reproduced with a current system. Thank You for your support and understanding The Mozilla Team
