Seems to be the same bug as,

    http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=713608

But I cannot fix it by using eautoreconf in src_prepare, as in the debug bug report.

I cut a 1.0.3 release and pushed it into the tree straight to stable. It's only real change should fix this bug.
