What version of udev? For example, post output of `emerge -pv virtual/udev sys-fs/udev` $ qfile -b -v /usr/lib32/libudev.so.1.3.8 sys-fs/udev-207 (/usr/lib32/libudev.so.1.3.8) sys-fs/udev-207 (/lib64/libudev.so.1.3.8) Do you have the 32bit libudev in place?

This shouldn't be possible: 14:13 <jlec> [ebuild R ] sys-fs/udev-207 USE="acl firmware-loader gudev kmod openrc -doc -introspection (-selinux) -static-libs" ABI_X86="(64) -32 (-x32)" 0 kB 14:13 <jlec> [ebuild R ] virtual/udev-206-r2 USE="gudev kmod -introspection (-selinux) -static-libs" ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)" 0 kB Somehow virtual/udev is not forcing ABI_X86="32" to be enabled on jlec's system. Somehow the ${MULTILIB_USEDEP} in virtual/udev is not getting picked up. However, it is picked up on my system -- I added sys-fs/udev -abi_x86_32 to /etc/portage/package.use for test and it bails out as expected: $ sudo emerge -pv virtual/udev sys-fs/udev These are the packages that would be merged: Calculating dependencies | * Missing digest for '/home/ssuominen/gentoo-x86/sys-fs/udev/udev-207-r1.ebuild' ... done! So, we suspected $MULTILIB_USEDEP is not getting set for some reason, but it is: <ssuominen> can you add simple <ssuominen> echo $MULTILIB_USEDEP to virtual/udev's ebuild in pkg_setup() 14:23 <ssuominen> to see if it's set or not and what's it value <jlec> yes <jlec> # ebuild udev-206-r2.ebuild clean setup <jlec> abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?,abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_mips_n32(-)?,abi_mips_n64(-)?,abi_mips_o32(-)?
@jlec, for the formality's sake, does 'emerge -1v virtual/udev' work? I don't know if portage detects it if you change flags on a package and merge it after the virtual was installed.
/etc/portage/profile/package.provided had systemd in it.
