It used to work in the past on the same system (I last used acroread on the machine about 4 months ago.)

Ignore the original error I posted. I was a different user (su). The only thing printed is actually: $ acroread (acroread:6500): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "oxygen-gtk", (acroread:6500): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "oxygen-gtk", Which isn't anything new. This was also printed in the past, but acroread was loading up fine (just without a proper theme, since this an AMD64 Gentoo and there's no support for 32-bit Gtk themes.
In order to have a better acroread integration on KDE, 'app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-qtlibs' should be compiled with gtkstyle flag on.
After updating to glibc-2.19, acroread works again. Closing.
