From a gentoo-core email (included here for your and my reference) Rdate ebuild From: Johan Nilsson <joh-nils@dsv.su.se> To: tuxus@gentoo.org Hello, I'm not sure if you are the correct person to contact about this, but I found you in the changelog of rdate. The rdate program shipped with gentoo is not licensed with GPL and belongs to the original author who didn't set any license. I have been trying to contact him about this, but failed. But there is a new written rdate-replacer program written from someone at redhat, which http://www.freshmeat.net/projects/rdate have been redirected to and the most common linux distributions use. Is this something gentoo can use instead? The newest version can't be found from the freshmeat site, but is ftp://people.redhat.com/sopwith/rdate-1.4.tar.gz. Regards Johan Nilsson
rdate 1.4 is now in portage. Can you check that your patch can be cleanly applied to that version. After that can you please reattach the patch here and email Elliot Lee <sopwith@redhat.com> who is the redhat maintainer of the rdate package. I'm hopeing on removeing the old rdate versions soon.
please reopen when patch to 1.4 is available. Sorry for being such a pain about this. You've undoubtly done a good job makeing this patch for the old version its just its not being maintained any more. Because of its old versioning number it would be better removed from portage so that gentoo devs don't get errors that they cannot just palm off to an upstream dev if the problem appears to be there.
