Description Benjamin Schindler 2013-09-10 12:35:15 UTC
I just figured that my redmine install ceased to work. I figured, that emerge -uDav world updated redmine, so I ran emerge --config =www-apps/redmine-2.3.2
This failed, with the following error:

Could not find 'rdoc' (~> 3.4) - did find: [rdoc-4.0.1]
/var/lib/redmine/config/application.rb:3:in `<top (required)>'
/var/lib/redmine/Rakefile:5:in `<top (required)>'
(See full trace by running task with --trace)

I figured that 3.4 is not in portage anymore, which seems problematic.

So I wanted to reinstall redmine, but this hangs:

Okay, just an update. The install phase doesn't hang, its just painfully slow for some reason. This used to take a few seconds, where now it took several minutes. But it completed in the end. The rdoc problem still persists though
Comment 2 Benjamin Schindler 2013-09-11 11:09:00 UTC
Sorry, but I have to raise the importance of this issue to high, as redmine is not functional at all right now because of a dependency issue and I have the impression, most installations are likely affected.

The issue is that indirectly, redmine depends on dev-ruby/json. The latest stable is since shortly 1.8.0, which pulls in ruby-2.0. I don't have ruby-20 in my make.conf, yet it is enabled.

By pulling in ruby-2, rdoc-4 is pulled in which redmine seems incompatible with. As a result, redmine fails to function.

A possible solution would be enabling ruby-2 support. According to the wiki, redmine 2.3 is compatible with ruby 2, and passenger itself should be as well (even though its not exposed in the ebuilds).

I reported this already (bug #484376), but agreed on the priority.
Comment 4 MATSUU Takuto (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-10-29 14:45:36 UTC
fixed in bug #484376.
