Please see http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=160252&highlight=kbear

May be kde-cvs related or qt related. Attempted again with similar errors following emerge kdelibs and emerge qt.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge kbear
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Configure process proceeds OK. Compiling fails.

Expected Results:
install of kbear-2.1.1

System not immediately accessible at this time. AMD Barton 2500+, i686, kde-cvs,
qt 3.2 (and 3.3), latest portage (as of 4/17/04).

With recent emerge -u world (and update to latest qt 3.3.0-r1) the problem resolved on its own. Other packages updated included Samba, OpenOffice, xine-ui, and a few others (probably dependencies).
