Running emerge --sync fails with error os.setgid(gid) It claims that rsync failed but running the actual command against the prefix rsync server works flawless. A sudo emerge --sync works as well. I'm assuming some permission problem but can't find which one, all looks normal and no permission changes have been made in the portage tree. could it be that you ran sudo emerge --sync in the past, and hence can't overwrite those files as regular user now?
(In reply to Fabian Groffen from comment #2) > could it be that you ran sudo emerge --sync in the past, and hence can't > overwrite those files as regular user now? I don't think so, but then again I can be absent minded every now and then, besides that I'm growing old :) I'm not really sure which files it attempts to write based on the error message, but the tmp file gets created without any problem, is it expecting some kind of permissions on the var/tmp dir ? It seems to try and set some gid on file and fail at that, I'm not sure what it is actually trying to do. Permissions seem normal in usr/portage/metadata, none of those files are root owned or anything like that
(In reply to Fabian Groffen from comment #2) > could it be that you ran sudo emerge --sync in the past, and hence can't > overwrite those files as regular user now? I see the same problem. I definitely did not run sudo, as I don't have permissions for that. This is a new installation from about a month ago and the very first time I try to run emerge --sync.
what are your USE-flags for rsync?
ramon@angband ~ $ emerge rsync -pv * Last emerge --sync was 53d 23h 7m 16s ago. These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] net-misc/rsync-3.0.9-r3 USE="ipv6 (-acl) -iconv -static -xattr" 0 kB
what kind of directory is /Users/ramon/gprefix/var/tmp/ ? Does it have anything special?
I just fail to see why. I've never seen this myself anywhere. Apparently two people have it, but without being able to investigate deeper, there's not much I can do about this.
