Running portage 2.0.11 I had created my tmp in a seperate bigger hdd then soft linked it back to /tmp Most applications emerged without a problem inscluding install but so far ncftp and mc has failed. Once I removed the link and placed /tmp proper in / it worked fine for both.
why not just mount the partition into /tmp?
The original partition layout is as follows hda1 primary /boot hda2 primary swap hda3 primary / hda4 extended hda5 extended /usr hda6 extended /var hda7 extended /local I generally have my /home and all other "data" not related to a working system in /local and then link it back into / so that I don't need to have a massive / partition, but also when I reinstall a box I can just reformat / without hacing to worry about loosing importand data since the "real" data is on /local mounted on hda7. when building gentoo some comment said that /tmp gets used and it get kinda big. I didn't want to fail on install due to space limitations so I linked /local/tmp to /tmp. I have since changed it back after encountering the problem. It's just curtousy to report the bug :) P.S. I'm sorry if I mess up the assignment.. my first dealings with bugzilla :)
OK, this *should* be fixed in Portage 2.0.12. Please test and let me know if this is not the case.
