Description Marius Brehler 2013-08-14 08:10:47 UTC
Using gedit-3.8.3 and gedit-plugins-3.8.3 some plugins, for example the code comment plugin, fail to load:

(gedit:16759): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: attempting to add an interface (GeditWindowActivatable) to class (CodeCommentPlugin) after class_init

(gedit:16759): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_class_unref: assertion `g_class != NULL' failed

(gedit:16759): libpeas-WARNING **: Error loading plugin 'codecomment'

The same occurs if I try to load 'bracketcompletion', 'colorpicker' or 'pythonconsole'.
The following packages are installed on my system:

dev-libs/gobject-introspection-common-1.36.0
dev-libs/gobject-introspection-1.36.0
app-editors/gedit-3.8.3
app-editors/gedit-plugins-3.8.3

I noticed that gobject-introspection only provides the use flag "python_targets_python2_7", while gedit only provides "python_targets_python3_*". If you need further information which I can provide, please let me know.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start gedit
2. Select "Edit" -> "Preferences" -> "Plugins"
3. Try to load "Code comment" plugin

Cannot reproduce the problem here :/

Please give the output of the following command:

emerge --info glib gobject-introspection pygobject libpeas gedit

Comment 3 Alexandre Rostovtsev (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-08-14 22:09:43 UTC
Thanks. I suspect that pygobject-3.2.2 might be incompatible with gobject-introspection-1.36 and/or with gedit-3.8

Please check if updating to pygobject-3.8.3 fixes the problem.
Comment 4 Marius Brehler 2013-08-15 17:28:15 UTC
You're right, that is the reason. Upgrading to pygobject 3.4.2-r1 brought no improvement, but with pygobject 3.8.3 the problem does not occur anymore.

I think the dependency on gedit should be changed in the gedit/gedit-plugins ebuilds todepend on >=dev-python/pygobject-3.8.3. Thanks a lot for you're help.
Comment 5 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2013-08-26 12:26:20 UTC
Will close this as fixed in 3.8 (you shouldn't mix stable and testing and, if you do, you usually need to use more packages from testing, like in this case)
