Created attachment 355522 [details] first adware offering From the handbook: "In case you wonder if your downloaded file is corrupted or not, you can check its SHA-2 checksum and compare it with the SHA-2 checksum we provide (such as install-amd64-minimal-<release>.iso.DIGESTS). You can check the SHA-2 checksum with the sha512sum tool under Linux/Unix or File Checksum Tool for Windows." This currently-recommended tool (http://www.krylack.com/file-checksum-tool/) is non-F/OSS and now bundles ("optionally") 2 pieces of adware. There are comparable F/OSS tools available without the adware encumbrance. Ubuntu mentions/recommends a few tools here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM#MD5SUM_on_Windows . I like the second one, "Checksums calculator"-- it's simple, free & open, and localized in 19 languages. We aren't providing any usage instructions for the currently linked tool, so the doc change would be minimal.

Created attachment 355526 [details] screenshot of old vs new gui Old (current, adware-encumbered) tool on the left, new suggested tool on the right. I don't think the difference is enough to make any further changes in the doc besides the tool name & link.
Created attachment 355528 [details, diff] handbook patch I forgot to mention the direct link to the new tool I'm suggesting: http://www.sinf.gr/en/hashcalc.html Attached is a patch with the proposed HB fix.
Thanks! Great bugreport & fix. I've applied it to the CVS (also to the other architectural handbooks that referred to the krylack one) so it should show up on the site in an hour or so.
