My volume is currently set to 16%. When pithos plays a song, it issues a notification saying that my sound is currently set to 16%. If I clear that notification from the notification tray icon, it goes away. But the next song that appears then cause a popup notification in the top right corner of my desktop. If I leave the notification in the tray icon, there are no popups, but I'm less likely to notice other notifications. I'm not sure if this is a Pithos or XFCE bug. I didn't notice this under Gnome, fwiw. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install pithos 2. Play songs 3. Watch notification tray/icon.
It's not really about the desktop, but about the application and it sending messages to the notification agent. What notification agent are you using?
I added a patch to the ebuild to disable the volume notifications.
(In reply to Patrick McLean from comment #2) > I added a patch to the ebuild to disable the volume notifications. The problem remains on XFCE/pithos-99999999: austin@aw25 ~ $ eix pithos [I] media-sound/pithos Available versions: 9999{tbz2}[1] ~20130710 ~20130808 **99999999 {{gnome python_targets_python2_7}} Installed versions: 9999{tbz2}[1](04:15:15 PM 08/08/2013)(gnome python_targets_python2_7) Homepage: http://kevinmehall.net/p/pithos/ Description: A Pandora Radio (pandora.com) player for the GNOME Desktop btw, the 99999999 does not properly apply the patch, there is no pithos-99999999-dont-notify-volume.patch
This should be fixed in pithos-1.0.0
