Created attachment 355370 [details, diff] Handbook patch The latest versions of portage use repos.conf for configuring repository syncing. The dev handbook refers to make.conf when explaning how to set up a CVS checkout as your main portage repo. See attached patch for the dev handbook which replaces make.conf with a repos.conf example. Zac says the repos.conf conversion will likely be stabilized in a couple of week.
/usr/share/portage/config/repos.conf already sets "main-repo = gentoo" in DEFAULT section. In the future, main-repo attribute will be deprecated, so it is better to not set it explicitly in /etc/portage/repos.conf (unless user wants to set it to a non-default value).
Will the old way be supported even if the new one is stabilized? Was this feature announced somewhere?
Old variables will be temporarily supported for some time.
