Currently, when sys-cluster/vzctl-(4.3.1 || 4.4) is installed, you get app-misc/vzstats as a PDEPEND whether you want it or not. This is a poor practice because app-misc/vzstats installs a cron job that sends statistics about your installation back to openvz.org. Even though I trust openvz.org enough to install their software, sending them statistics about my installation is a whole different matter. The app-misc/vzstats package is not required for running vzctl. It is merely a nice thing you can do to help out the project. Even worse, many users who install sys-cluster/vzctl may not understand that this app-misc/vzstats package (which portage implies is required) is sending out information regarding their installation. Even though the guys at openvz.org swear they are collecting this information anonymously (and I have no reason to believe they aren't), it is an incredibly poor security practice to force this submission of information on the user unless they happen to know what is going on and opt out. I'm pretty sure the intention of the people at openvz.org was not for vzstats to be mandatory. Reproducible: Always
Fixed in 4.5.1
