Description Alex Efros 2013-08-03 13:00:09 UTC
After upgrading libvirt from 1.0.5.4 to 1.1.0-r3 I didn't see mouse cursor in Win7 guest anymore. Mouse works, I can point and click things, but mouse cursor is invisible.

Also I noticed another minor issue - while switching from Windows "welcome" screen to desktop with 1.1.0-r3 I see how screen contents change (diagonal line of blocks move on screen changing picture) but on 1.0.5.4 welcome screen replaced by desktop instantly, without any intermediate effects.

I'll attach my /etc/libvirt/qemu/Seven.xml, here is my USE-flags for virt-related packages:

Upgrade to libvirt-1.1.1, and I bet the problem will go away.
Comment 3 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-08-06 14:40:44 UTC
If you confirm this, we should probably get 1.1.1-r1 stable to replace 1.1.0-r3. The fix required a git submodule update and therefore we can't easily roll a patchset for 1.1.0.

I can't test it:

# ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~amd64 emerge -1av libvirt
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] app-emulation/libvirt-1.0.5.4 USE="caps libvirtd nls python qemu udev -audit -avahi -firewalld -fuse -iscsi -lvm -lxc -macvtap -nfs -numa -openvz -parted -pcap -phyp -policykit -rbd -sasl (-selinux) -systemd -uml -vepa -virt-network -virtualbox -xen" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

WARNING: One or more updates have been skipped due to a dependency conflict:

app-emulation/libvirt:0

  (app-emulation/libvirt-1.1.1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) conflicts with
    >=app-emulation/libvirt-0.7.0[python] required by (app-emulation/virt-manager-0.9.5::gentoo, installed)
  (app-emulation/libvirt-1.1.1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) conflicts with
    >=app-emulation/libvirt-0.7.0[python] required by (app-emulation/virtinst-0.600.4::gentoo, installed)

I don't know why this happens, as far as I see in ebuild for 1.1.1 it have USE flag python, so this version should match >=app-emulation/libvirt-0.7.0[python] requirement.
Comment 5 Christopher Byrne 2013-08-07 03:57:08 UTC
I have the same problem with the missing mouse cursor, it appears the problem is this: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=986384

Its not a libvirt bug per se, its actually a bug in qemu, but a workaround for libvirt is avaiable and has been applied upstream: http://libvirt.org/git/?p=libvirt.git;a=commit;h=e3f2686bdf6c94f658d8645c32a6039692753411 . It is already in libvirt-1.1.1

I've tested both without QXL in the 1.1.0 and with QXL in 1.1.1 (I didn't have the dependency conflict issue) and in both the mosue pointer has returned.

Thanks for confirming and filling in the details. I should have provided more info but you are correct above the issue and the fix. I'll try to backport the fix to qemu-1.5.3 as well.

Update to the latest stable and you should be ok.
