The res.cls class is missing from dev-texlive/texlive-latexextra-2012. It existed in dev-texlive/texlive-latexextra-2007.

It can be downloaded here: http://www.math.nyu.edu/student_resources/res.cls and was removed because it has a non-sale license which violates #1 of the Debian  Debian Free Software Guidelines (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=510749)

Would it be possible to provide it as a separate package, since it is usable for writing CVs?

re-added as a separate package why not but as part of texlive not really since upstream has their reasons to remove it
