I changed the kernels that go into the GRP-set: aa-sources -> gentoo-sources vanilla-sources -> gentoo-dev-sources This will provide a 2.6 and 2.4 series kernel in the set.
Sven, can you take care of this for the handbook?
I've added this to the 2004.1/Handbook updates, but I don't quite understand. You mean that in 2004.1 "gentoo-sources == aa-sources" and "gentoo-dev-sources == vanilla-sources"? Shouldn't this be reversed (gentoo-sources == vanilla-sources) or ... ? What needs to change wrt documentation?
aa-sources and vanilla sources have been taken out of the spec and were exchanged by gentoo-sources (to have a replacement for aa-sources) and gentoo-dev-sources (to replace the vanilla-sources).
Okay; just for GRP, right? Does this mean users can install a kernel without compiling one? Or are you mistaken GRP here with the provided distfiles?
Oh sorry - technically distfiles and grp-packages are the same. :) - You're right, I am talking about distfiles.
Okay, so 2004.1 will allow the users to install a 2.4 or 2.6 kernel even when performing a networkless installation and they will have the choice between gentoo-sources and gentoo-dev-sources. Now only hope that the portage snapshot that we'll provide resembles the versions of the kernels that are available :)
Since the linux-2.4.25 and linux-2.6.5 are available as well, does that mean we also provide vanilla-sources and development-sources next to gentoo-sources and gentoo-dev-sources? Or do those require dependencies that aren't fulfilled?
Please see: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=171675&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= Until the sources issue has been sorted can the handbook be updated.. as this cuases much confusion.
gentoo-sources gentoo-dev-sources vanilla-sources development-sources I changed the spec template to reflect the above - judging from the forums post, it seems to be the most logical. Sven, the docs are all yours :)
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
