Description mjbjr 2013-07-23 05:45:38 UTC
gedit-3.6.2 no longer has the active document tab highlighted.

All document tabs look the same; there is no visual distinction between the tab of the document being edited and all other document tabs.

I don't see anything in preferences, or any place else, that would toggle active document highlighting.

Changing 'color themes' within gedit preferences made no difference.

Overall look is very simple and flat as if this is a toolkit issue, maybe.

I'm running gtk+-3.6.3-r2 with xfce4-4.10 and have been for some time. No toolkit changes were made immediately before or after emerging gedit.

No other applications are exhibiting the visual behaviour with their tabs.

The previous gedit version I used had "reversed" active document tab highlighting,
where the active document tab was dark while the non-active tabs were light, the reverse of what I would normally expect and what had previously been the case.

Please attach a screenshot of gedit that shows the problem; it would be much easier to understand than a verbal description

Do you remember under what circumstances gedit had looked better in the past (for example, with what gedit version, what gtk version, what desktop environment, etc.)?

What gtk theme are you using now, and what version of it?

(For example, if you are using the standard gnome-3 Adwaita theme, what version of x11-themes/gnome-themes-standard do you have?)

gedit document tabs screenshot

here's a screenshot showing that the gedit document tabs. You can see from the title bar and the side panel on the left that the 'commands_notes.txt' file is the active file and that its tab is not highlighted.

no gui libs or elements were emerged before or after the gedit emerge.

all other programs continue to show document tab highlighting correctly.

prior and since this gedit emerge I'm running gtk+-3.6.3-r2, xfce4-4.10 with xfce-kde2 "style". I have not found any theme or style change that alters the lack of document tab highlighting for the current document in this latest gedit.

It seems that x11-themes/gtk-engines-xfce-3.0.1-r300 renders gedit-3.6 incorrectly. Reassigning to xfce maintainers.

Until this is fixed, I would suggest switching to another gtk theme, for example Adwaita from x11-themes/gnome-themes-standard, or Zukitwo from x11-themes/zukitwo

Adwaita solves the tab problem with gedit.

Thank you for the suggestion

Gedit-3.6 was removed long ago, removing ourselves from this issue.
Feel free to re-add us if there is something we can provide help for.

Is this still valid with a fully updated system?
