PyBSDDB 6.0.0 has been released. It should solve this issue.

righty;

There is something in the ebuild test phase that py3.3 doesn't like, and I have no idea on this one what or where.  This is what I have;

1. pushd to the source in this case to bsddb3-6.0.0-python3_3
$ PYTHONPATH=build/lib/ python3.3 -v test3.py

and we get a clean finish and passes all. So py3.3 is fine with the testsuite and on that basis this bug is closable, however I have no idea how to re-write the ebuild for py3.3

2. From the source, we get in an effective run;

# code object from /mnt/gen2/TmpDir/portage/dev-python/bsddb3-6.0.0/work/bsddb3-6.0.0-python3_3/build/lib.linux-x86_64-3.3/bsddb3/tests/test_queue.py
# created '/mnt/gen2/TmpDir/portage/dev-python/bsddb3-6.0.0/work/bsddb3-6.0.0-python3_3/build/lib.linux-x86_64-3.3/bsddb3/tests/__pycache__/test_queue.cpython-33.pyc'
# wrote '/mnt/gen2/TmpDir/portage/dev-python/bsddb3-6.0.0/work/bsddb3-6.0.0-python3_3/build/lib.linux-x86_64-3.3/bsddb3/tests/__pycache__/test_queue.cpython-33.pyc'
import 'bsddb3.tests.test_queue' # <_frozen_importlib.SourceFileLoader object at 0x7fd0f63b2210>

A sequence of # code # created # wrote for each and all test_file.py(c) and here likely lies our gentoo problem.

our ebuild with the eclass layer above it squeezes out # created and # wrote

# code object from /mnt/gen2/TmpDir/portage/dev-python/bsddb3-6.0.0/work/bsddb3-6.0.0-python3_3/build/lib.linux-x86_64-3.3/bsddb3/tests/test_queue.py
import 'bsddb3.tests.test_queue' # <_frozen_importlib.SourceFileLoader object at 0x7f30252ed5d0>
# code object from /mnt/gen2/TmpDir/portage/dev-python/bsddb3-6.0.0/work/bsddb3-6.0.0-python3_3/build/lib.linux-x86_64-3.3/bsddb3/tests/test_recno.py

and post importing test_queue it hangs at /test_recno.py.

We cannot possibly file this upstream because it's a gentoo induced failure.
We know py3.3 passes the testsuite from running it manually, so this is NOT a package bug.
The squeezing out of byte compiling appears to me to be a possible cause.
Py3.2 manages it without hanging in this style.
