Does this problem persist with the new baselayout, marked stable today? baselayout-1.8.10
Comment 5 Craig Bradney 2004-04-15 01:32:09 UTC
Having moved from #47863 I wanted also note that I had these errors on emerging 1.8.10.

 * Creating directories and .keep files
 *   can't create /dev/.keep
 *   can't create /dev/pts/.keep
 *   can't create /proc/.keep
 * Removing invalid backup copies of critical config files...
 * Updating module dependencies...

Right now, I've just reemerged it and will try the new wireless stuff at
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=122435&highlight=wireless
Comment 6 Craig Bradney 2004-04-15 02:03:25 UTC
Ok, having updated again to 1.8.10 stable, and then put in all the network changes for wireless from the thread mentioned, I still get a whole lot of errors with regards to depscan. (I had a default new baselayout net.eth0 after that as per the >1.8.7 wireless setup)

I reran /sbin/depscan.sh but still get errors like checkroot that domainname depends on couldnt be found. Of course.. it all flies by too quickly to write down but there were about 10 lines like that.

For now, Im back on 1.8.6.13 again.
Comment 7 Craig Bradney 2004-04-15 07:06:22 UTC
Ok, just tried removing the pcmcia card and activating the module for the laptops inbuilt network card in modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6. With all standard init.d files, I still get a mess of depend errors on startup. eg checkroot/domainname and clock needed by syslog-ng etc. Network is disabled even though it says it brings up the network and notes the address. net.eth0 is said to be started by rc-status
Comment 8 Andy Wang 2004-04-15 07:31:32 UTC
duplicate of 46954 I believe. I have a comment in that one that explains why the problem occurs (at least on my system).
Comment 9 Anes Lihovac 2004-04-15 07:40:16 UTC
Okay. We can close this one.

I updated my system to 2.6.5 newest udev and hotplug and the error messages vanished.

Thanks to all
Comment 10 Craig Bradney 2004-04-15 08:17:39 UTC
Im running gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.5. The problem goes away when i build my network card drivers into the kernel and with the wireless-config ebuild from forums.

When they are modules I get the dependency errors. Is there something else I should update (all emerged items are x86)
