I am running kernel 2.6.5 (from kernel.org) and since 2.6.3 my sound card (ens-1371) stoped working and returned working in 2.6.5 but the sound it produces is far away from a decente sound, is like a white noise that starts when the module loads. I tried an emerge alsa-driver 1.0.4 (over the kernel's) but it also does the same thing. It worked fine in 2.4 and 2.6.0 to 2.6.2. 2.6.2 had the 0.9.8 drivers, but this problem isn't with gentoo as you experience it with the vanilla kernel using the kernel drivers, etc... so please file a bug report upstream at: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/ and provide us with a link to it here. Thanks.
this is an upstream bug that I have no way of reproducing...
