Description Ilya Gordeev 2013-06-16 18:33:10 UTC
Propose vmware-vix-1.12.2.1031769.ebuild as copy of vmware-vix-1.11.4.744019.ebuild with small fix.

Reproducible: Always

Just a quick note, the latest version for vmware-vix is 1.13 as of October 2013.
Comment 4 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-12-22 15:17:57 UTC
I guess this has been obsoleted by the vix USE flag on vmware-workstation?

VIX API Documentation

VIX API 1.15

Released 24 AUG 2015 | Download SDK 1.15

VIX 1.15 is the release for VMware Fusion 8 and Workstation 12. <--- !
"

C.f. "VIX API 1.15 Release Notes" :

"
VIX 1.15 is the release for Workstation Pro 12, Workstation Player 12, and VMware Fusion 8. There are no changes to the API in this release.

For vSphere, the VIX API was deprecated in 2012, as announced in the VIX 1.11 Release Notes.
VIX 1.14 was the last supported release for vSphere.
VIX is no longer supported with vSphere 6.5 and VMware Tools 10.1.0 onwards.

Starting with vSphere 5.0, VIX APIs were integrated into the vSphere Web Services SDK. Programs using VIX can be updated to use “VMODL Guest Operations” – see the Guest Ops technical note.

REFERENCE:

Bug 616958 : 12.5.7 version bump

including app-emulation/vmware-tools-10.1.6.5214329

To me, this bug seems as it _should_ be OBSOLETE,

BUT :

# equery uses vmware-workstation

still delivers

"
 + + vix :
Install VIX. The VIX API allows you to write programs and scripts that automate virtual machine operations, and run programs or manipulate files within guest operating systems.
"

Moreover:

# cd /opt/vmware/

# find . -name *vix*

./lib/libbvixAllProducts.so
./lib/vmware/vixwrapper-product-config.txt
./lib/vmware-vix
./lib/vmware-vix/Workstation-12.0.0/64bit/libvix.so
./lib/vmware-vix/libvixAllProducts.so
Comment 7 Manfred Knick 2017-11-30 11:34:46 UTC
VMware Products have been removed from Main Portage Tree during Nov-2017.

Further development has been relegated to [vmware] Overlay.

Situation as of today, 30-Nov-2017:
Workstation : stable in [vmware] = 12.5.8 / released = 14.0.0 : Bug 634770
Player : stable in [vmware] = 12.5.8 / released = 14.0.0 : Bug 639162
Modules : stable in [vmware] = 308.5.8 / released = 329.0.0 : Bug 634862
Tools : stable in [vmware] = 10.1.6 / released = 10.1.15 : Bug 634854

Vix : c.f. Bug 637030
Cli : c.f. Bug 637032

HINT:

Both Workstation packages mentioned above still supply USE="vix".

This was already pointed out by Mike Auty in comment #4:
> I guess this has been obsoleted by the vix USE flag on vmware-workstation?
If this does not help : NEEDINFO.
Thanks.
